Wilson High School class of 2024 graduate Jake Austin was presented the 2024 Millie Neville Senior Champion Award at Class Night on June 6.
The annual scholarship award, established in memory of founder Kathleen Neville’s mother Millie Neville, is given by the Neville family to a Wilson High School senior who has shown great character, a deep commitment to community service and who consistently serves as a role model for others.
Austin, a scholar-athlete, received many accolades throughout his high school years.
His long-time basketball coach Brett Sippel calls him a natural leader both on and off the court or field. Sippel said Austin’s selflessness and willingness to help others navigate life’s challenges is inspiring.
Austin was Varsity basketball captain during his junior and senior years, Varsity soccer captain in his senior year, a member of the Varsity track and field team, a member of the National Honor Society, as well as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
He lettered in soccer and basketball, was named 1st team all-league in soccer and received the prestigious League Sportsmanship Player of the Year award in soccer.
In the fall Austin will attend the University of Buffalo and study engineering.
