MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County 8U girls All-Star team dropped its losers bracket opener on Thursday to take a third-place finish in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s state tournament held at Moultrie’s Magnolia Sports Complex.
The Colquitt County 8U boys also finished third in the state tournament in Effingham County.
Colquitt County’s 14U boys finished fourth in Effingham County and three other local all-star teams finished fifth in the state.
• Playing in front of an appreciative home crowd, the 8U girls won their openers on Wednesday, defeating Wayne County 12-7 and Vidalia 14-9.
But on Wednesday, Colquitt fell 14-12 to Emanuel County and dropped to the losers bracket, where they were defeated by Wayne County 24-10.
Colquitt’s 8U girls all-stars had swept the District tournament field, defeating their six opponents by a combined 116-9 and winning the championship game 19-3 over Lee County.
The team included Autrey Benton, Cheyenne Summerlin, Addison Strickland, Raelynn Hodapp, Arianna Palacios, Mims Murphy, Ellie Pittman, Ellie Peek, Addie Vaughan, Claira Peebles, Riley Wheeler and Dannie Rogers.
The coaches are Scott Strickland, Shana Murphy and James Vaughan.
• The 8U boys, playing in Effingham County, also won their first two games, defeating the Savannah Suns 7-4 on Tuesday and host team Effingham County 14-2 on Wednesday.
Later Wednesday, however, Colquitt County was sent to the losers bracket after a 10-2 loss to Wayne County.
Vidalia ended the Colquitt County season with a 16-0 victory.
The 8U boys all-stars are Liam Glasgow, Zakir (Doodle) Marshall, Creek Kimbrel, Cooper Hatcher, Rhys Summerlin, Benjamin Covin, Kaenen Deal, Brylan Thomas, Asher Craft, Kolt Roberson, Jaxon Barham, Mattox Deal (batman) and coaches Tim Covin, Joey Kimbrel, Matt Deal, Jeremy Hatcher and head coach Jay Barham.
• The 14U boys were blanked by Glynn County 12-0 on Tuesday in their state tournament opener, but then won back-to-back games in the losers bracket, defeating Dawson County 15-6 and Lyons 17-0 on Wednesday.
But the 14U boys were eliminated in their first game on Thursday, falling to Bartow 17-4 to finish fourth.
Led by head coach Wade Hall and assistants Philip Brinson and Jim Stanfill, the 14U all-stars include Jaden Chambers, Ja’brael Williams, Wesley Allen, Parker Bennett, Cooper Lewis, Bradley Bryan, Wesley Hall, Braylon Inlow, Hayden Butterfield, Marcus Norman, Noah Stanfill and Carson Taylor.
• The Colquitt County 10U boys won three of their five state tournament games in Bulloch County and finished fifth.
Colquitt defeated the Savannah Whippers 18-1 in their opener on Tuesday, but fell to the losers bracket with a 21-0 loss to Lyons in its first game on Wednesday.
The 10U boys all-stars then won two straight losers bracket games, defeating Wayne County 8-2 on Wednesday and Calhoun 5-1 on Thursday before being eliminated in a 9-1 loss to Sumter County.
The 10U boys, coached by Jeff Horne and Matt Peek, include Daniel Adcock, McCoy Cox, Grayson Ford, John Michael Horne, Donnie Malone, Tucker Miles, Miles Murphy, John David Peek, Luke Simpson, Drake Whittington and Xavi Zapote.
• Colquitt County 10U girls dropped their first two state tournament games in Effingham County, falling to Douglas/Coffee County 8-3 and Summerville 18-10.
The Colquitt County 10U girls includes Lola Howard, Sophia Martinez, Jerni Moore, Adie Wheeler, Madilyn Mims, Delyla Brooks, Peyton McGee, Lynlee Perryman, Emorie Stafford, Annie Walden, Koley Hughes, Skyleigh Tyree and Leah Strong.The coaches are Bobby Brooks and Tyler Brooks.
• The 12U girls all-stars started state tournament play on Tuesday in Douglas with a 6-1 loss to Emanuel County.
On Wednesday, they won their first losers bracket game, eliminating Worth County 8-3.
But their season ended with a 4-3 to Wayne County on Thursday.
The 12U all-stars include Emily Truelove, Leona Marshall, Ella Brooks, Emma Whittington, Maranda Hogg, Saige Singletary, Madysen Davis, Preslee Hall, Callie Croy, Taylor May Thompson, Yoselin Perez and Zoey Chafin.
Their coaches are Chuck Arrington, Madison Plymel and Peyton Arrington.
