There aren’t many honors Denisha Cartwright hasn’t garnered in her distinguished career with the Minnesota State women’s track and field team.
She added another one on Tuesday, being named Minnesota State’s female senior Athlete of the Year. MSU coaches and staff voted on the award.
Cartwright, a staggering 30-time All-American between indoor and outdoor track, won eight career individual national championships between the two sports.
Earlier this month, she was named the Women’s Sports Award Honda Division II Athlete of the Year. Cartwright also earned USTFCCCA Track Athlete of the Year honors during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She won national championships in the indoor 60-meter hurdles, the outdoor 100m hurdles and the outdoor 200m dash.
The Mavericks have won seven NSIC outdoor and indoor championships in Cartwright’s career and also have seven top-five finishes at the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets.
Cartwright owns the NCAA Division II record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.93 and is fourth all-time in the 200 dash at 22.91.
Others MSU senior athletes nominated for the award include McKayla Armbruster (softball), Joey Batt (women’s basketball), Chiara Carnelutti (tennis), Anna Cihak (women’s golf), Mackenzie Rath (soccer), McKenna Thurston (women’s cross country) and Sophie Tietz (volleyball).
