Cougars’ 15U edge out win over Cannons 15U
CHAMPLAIN — The Champlain Cougars’ 15U summer baseball team held for a 5-4 victory over the Colchester, Vt. Cannons 15U on Saturday at the Northeastern Clinton Central School varsity field. It was a nine-inning contest.
Logan Dragoon, Baylon Cronkrite, Cobe Lafountain, Lincoln Perkins and Hayden Schad all pitched for Champlain, with Dragoon getting the victory and Schad the save. Cronkrite also had a strong game defensively behind the plate.
Cobe Lafountain and Greyson Lafountain had two hits apiece for the Cougars. Cobe Lafountain’s two-run double, which scored Curtis Podolak and Ty Breyette in the second inning, was the key hit in the game for Champlain.
Champlain pitchers combined to strike out 13 Colchester batters, but had to work out of several jams as the Cannons stranded 16 runners. The Cougars held on for a win by escaping a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth.
