The Kenan Center in Lockport is hosting the first-ever LGBTQ+ Pride celebration on Saturday.
From 1 to 5 p.m. more than 50 vendors will be on site, along with food trucks, and there will be performances and activities for youths. A special, one-hour drag performance begins at 6 p.m. at the Kenan Center’s Taylor Theater.
Lockport Pride is one in a series of events hosted by Niagara Pride this month, in Niagara County’s cities, in Newfane and at SUNY Niagara in Sanborn, in part to give rural residents the ability to partake in Pride festivities, according to Niagara Pride’s president, Ronald Piaseczny. The organization partnered with Discover Niagara Shuttle to provide free drop off / hop on service connecting the cities so that individuals could travel to local community Pride festivals this month.
“It’s important that we celebrate diversity and show that everyone is welcome throughout our county,” Piaseczny said. “Events like these create safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals as well as allies in our neighborhoods.”
