MANKATO — Two men face murder charges in relation to a May fatal shooting of a Mankato man in Minneapolis.
The victim was identified as Abdirizak Mahamed Abader, 27, according to a Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s report.
Charges filed Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court allege Barkat Abdi Nour, 24, of Blaine, and Adnan Hassanur Ismael, 19, of Minneapolis, caused Abader’s death. The two were charged with felony second-degree murder with intent but without premeditation Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court.
Criminal complaints filed against them say police responded to a suspected overdose in an alley on May 16. Police reported the victim actually had a gunshot wound in the left rib cage area, while a 9 mm cartridge was found near the body.
A medical examiner deemed Abader’s death a homicide from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Surveillance footage showed Abader walking into the alley around 1:47 p.m., according to the complaint, followed by Ismael and Nour walking down the alley at 2:03 p.m. Shortly afterward, Ismael and Nour are shown leaving the alley.
The complaint states only Abader, Nour and Ismael were seen on surveillance footage going into the alley. One person told police she saw three men arguing in the alley right before the shooting.
Nour identified himself in the footage and reportedly said he did walk down the alley, but denied seeing Abader there, according to the complaint.
Ismael also reportedly identified himself in the footage. When police arrested him, they reported he had a firearm on him along with a “large quantity of narcotics.”
Nour has his next court hearing scheduled for July 18 and Ismael’s is set for July 19.
