WINDHAM — Two workers were injured when a paving machine toppled over while they were working on a road at the site of the new Nouria Gas Mart, 19 Rockingham Road.
When first responders arrived on the scene at 4 p.m. Wednesday, they found two individuals with serious but non life-threatening injuries to their legs.
The identities and ages of the injured were not disclosed immediately following the accident.
Within 18 minutes, emergency medical crews arrived on the scene to transport both patients. One was taken by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center in Derry; the other was flown by Boston MedFlight Helicopter to Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts.
After a preliminary investigation, the Windham Fire Department said it appears the operator of the paving machine hit a curb. This caused the machine to be thrown off balance and begin to fall. Initial reports said the second victim attempted to stop the machine from falling and help the operator.
There were no other injuries reported.
