MIDDLEPORT — Parents of students in the Royalton-Hartland School District were greeted with a text message Tuesday morning regarding “police activity” in Middleport and assuring them that the situation is not a threat to students or faculty.
“There is no imminent danger to our students and everyone on campus is safe,” the alert, sent by the district to parents at just after 9 a.m., reads. “We are in communication with local law enforcement and monitoring the situation.”
Less than an hour later, a second text alert from the district was sent to parents stating that the situation had been “resolved.”
When contacted by the newspaper early Tuesday, Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti confirmed that the Sheriff’s Office responded to the situation and were assisted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He deferred additional comment to the agency.
This is a developing story.
