SOFTBALL
Peabody 19, Bishop Fenwick 0: Senior captain Logan Lomasney hit two home runs in the first two innings and the Tanners (7-2) had 16 hits to avenge one of their two losses. Lomasney totaled five RBI while Abby Bettencourt had three hits and four RBI, Caitlyn Burke drove in three, Lizzy Bettencourt had two hits, JJ Emerson had two RBI and Avery Bettencourt, Kiley Doolin and Kaylee DiNocola all scored twice.
In the circle, Abby Bettencourt fanned six in five shutout innings and Fenwick’s Sofia Longo spoiled her bid at a no-hitter with a single.
Ipswich 18, Rockport 6: Cairo Teehan was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and Piper Reily added two hits also drove home three to give the Tigers their first win of the season. Annabel Morris, who had two hits, went the distance and struck out seven to pick up the win on the mound. Elin Roberts also had two hits for the winners, who got excellent play defensively from second baseman Julia Hubbard, who handled all six of her chances flawlessly.
Marblehead 2, Wakefield 0: Tess Francis spun a 2-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as the Magicians improved to 10-2. Luka Bornhorst, Marblehead’s catcher, threw out two runners while going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Right fielder Isabel Mortensen was also 2-for-3 for an RBI while Tessa Adriano, Sophia Hailsey and Hailey Schmitt all hit safely.
Danvers 6, Melrose 0: Autumn Buckley struck out eight hitters while allowing just one walk as the Falcons improved to 7-4 with a non-league win. Brea Robinson and Addie McCarty (double, triple, RBI) both had two hits for DHS.
Masconomet 6, Swampscott 3: Mia Theberge had a single, double and drove home to runs as the Chieftains doubled up the Big Blue. Mia Tringale picked well for Swampscott (3-6) with seven strikeouts over six innings and Cece O’Connor hit a double.
Georgetown 7, Hamilton-Wenham 3: Molly Degnan threw three scoreless relief innings but the Generals (4-7) couldn’t come all the way back against the Royals. Biance Frederickson drove home a run for H-W and Ava Day had one of her team’s two hits.
BOYS LACROSSE
Masconomet 19, Winthrop 13: In a wild high scoring contest, Colten Russo had five goals with one assist while Owen McNally added four goals and three helpers to push the Chieftains (now 6-5) over .500. Anthony Giacchino and Colin Driscoll both added three goals and two assists to help the Masconomet offense. Miles Mireault (2 assists), Chris Young (assist), Will Carey and John Miga also scored, with Robbie Engel dishing out two assists and Alan Weitzman one.
Swampscott 4, Peabody 1: The Big Blue (now 11-1) scored twice in both the first and third periods and got some excellent defensive play around goalie Timmy Sheehan (16 saves) to pick up another W. Jason Rothwell had one goal and assisted on two others, with teammates John Von Barta, Liam Keaney and Max Field also scoring.
Aiden Haight was again spectacular in net for Peabody, stopping 24 shots. Antonio Anzalone had the Tanners’ goal, with Matt Bettencourt assisting.
Marblehead 13, Gloucester 7: Cam Waldman came away with four goals and two assists to lift the Magicians (now 8-3). Will Sullivan had two goals and one assist, Charlie Grenier scored once with three helpers, Gio Garibotto and Greg Motorny both scored twice, Reece Moore had one of each, and James Bickell also scored while Drew Nelson finished with one assist. Goalie Finn Gallup made five saves.
St. John’s Prep 17, Malden Catholic 2: Thirteen different players had at least one goal to help give sophomore goalie Sam Pruell (2 saves) his first varsity win for the Eagles, who improved to 11-1. Senior Ben Menera led the offense with two goals and an assist, with Joe Bullard, Jack Quigley and, with his first two varsity goals, Logan Hatch, adding two apiece. Also scoring their first varsity goals were Josh Barton, Michael Quigley, Sam Kelly and Charlie Angell. Other scorers were Cam McCarthy, Josh Haarmann, Matthias Tolo, Bo Minogue, and Danny Cahill. Nolan Convey picked up an assist while Will Crawford won 16-of-17 draws at the faceoff X while Chase Kenyon was a perfect 6-for-6.
BASEBALL
Bishop Fenwick 6, Danvers 5: With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Crusaders (7-6) got the game-tying double from Anthony Herbert and the walk-off single from Josh Scali to steal one after trailing 6-1 to start the inning. Jacob Behn and Andrew McKenzie had key hits in that inning and Timmy Ronningen grabbed the win with solid relief work. For Danvers (3-8), Mike Moroney struck out six and helped himself with two hits, Bryce Clark had an early 2-run double and Josh Henry had a pair of hits.
Arlington 7, Beverly 4: Casey McGrath and Jon Reyes each had two hits with a double but the Panthers dipped to 4-9. Danny Pierce drove in a run for Beverly and Charlie Salerno tossed 2 1/2 innings of hitless relief with four strikeouts.
Whittier Tech 12, Essex Tech 2: Cole Waterman and Mike Pesce had solid outings for the Hawks (now 1-10).
Xaverian 8, St. John’s Prep 3: The Eagles (5-7) fell to 1-5 in conference play despite getting home runs from Nic Lembo and senior captain Aidan Driscoll. Catcher Jack Growney had two hits for St. John’s.
Masconomet 3, Melrose 0: Drew Gustafson spun a 1-hit gem with seven strikeouts to get the Chieftains (9-3) a strong non-league win. Chase Caron had a key RBI and a hit for Masco, Gabe Fales had a base hit and scored and Brady Forde walked and scored.
Marblehead 7, Gloucester 1: The Magicians (8-4) broke open a 2-1 game with five runs over their final two at-bats to sweep the Fishermen. Charlie Sachs went 3-for-4 to lead the offense, Brooks Keefe had two hits and two RBI, Stef Shepard had two hits and scored three times and Chris Cannuscio knocked home a run. Matt Mahan earned the win with four solid innings and Carter Sahagian polished it off with three scoreless.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Beverly 18, Salem 1: Abby Whiting and Julie O’Connor scored their first varsity goals to highlight the Panthers’ impressive victory. Freshmen Annabelle Miller scored four times and Cameron Koloski added two goals and two assists to lead the scoring parade.
Danvers 19, Saugus 8: Savannah Botthof (6 goals, 2 assists) and Jordan Turcotte (4 goals, 5 assists, 10 draw controls) again powered the offense to help the Falcons prevail. Aundrea Gaudino and Giovanna Rodrigues both scored their first varsity goals for Danvers, which also got a big game from Abigail Sullivan (2 goals, 4 assists, 7 ground balls). Maddie Chase added two goals and two assists to go with five ground balls, with Olivia Henry (goal, assist), Jordan Bartlett (goal), Sienna Goldberg (goal), Elizabeth Farrell (assist) also contributing to the attack. Meghan Sears earned the win in net with three saves.
Masconomet 14, Winthrop 5: Hannah Coleman had four goals with one assist along with eight draw controls to power the Chieftains to a breakaway win. Caitlin Driscoll finished with two goals and three assists, with Grace Blaney and Caleigh Forbes also scoring twice. Bella Campbell added one goal and one assist for Masconomet, which got additional single tallies from Mia Marques, Ava Gauvain and Violet Malinowski.
Peabody 10, Swampscott 5: Goalie Caitlin Snow made 12 saves and Addy Merrill and Maia Davis were tremendous defensively as the Tanners (9-2) held down a high-scoring Swampscott side to make it nine straight wins. Brooke Lomasney led Peabody with six goals and three assists while Ally Bettencourt had a score and four helpers, Madi Barrett scored two, Arianna Alvarado scored and Victoria Vaz had an assist.
Coco Clopton scored four times for the Big Blue (now 8-2), with Avery Laundry also scoring and Fiona Keaney picking up one assist. Goaltender Lilah Caplan made four saves.
Woburn 15, Marblehead 9: Maddie Forbes scored three times with one assist and six draw controls to lead Marblehead (now 4-8). Ramona Gillett (3 ground balls), Gretchen Smith and Kathryn Commoss each netted two goals, Caroline Scroope had one assist, and goaltender Molly Bullard made five saves.
GIRLS TENNIS
Masconomet 5, Winthrop 0: Teagan Skulley, Taylor Mastrogiovanni, and Sophia Donnellan were all 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles action for the Chieftains. The doubles teams of Izzy Kelly and Sienna Anvari, as well as Hannah Pietropaolo and Paige Hurton, won by the same shutout scores.
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Triton 0: Olivia Romans got her first varsity win, teaming with Julia Maher to take second doubles, 6-2, 6-0, for the unbeaten Generals. Naomi Provost (6-0, 6-0), Ellie Holbrook (6-1, 6-0) and Emily McIntosh (6-2, 6-0) got singles wins for Hamilton-Wenham (now 9-0) while Maddie Minich and Sydney Dolan prevailed at first doubles (6-3, 6-2).
Ipswich 5, Pentucket 0: Claire Buletza and Tess O’Flynn both won 6-0, 6-0 at first and third singles, respectively, to guide IHS to victory. Abbie Allen was also dominant at second singles (6-1, 6-1), as were Norah Hickey and Lila Borgman at first doubles (6-1, 6-1) and Emily Hannibal and Frannie Hertz at second doubles (6-1, 6-0).
Danvers 3, Marblehead 2: The Falcons got wins at all three singles spots to take down the Magicians. Madison Savage (7-6 (10-8), 6-2), Sophie Sandia (6-2, 6-2) and Josie Vogel (7-5, 7-6 (7-4)) all prevailed in tight matches.
Marblehead got wins from the doubles teams of Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin (6-1, 6-3) as well as Lani Gilmore and Reese Freedman (6-2, 6-3).
Beverly 5, Salem 0: Clea Shumria and Ella McAlee at first doubles, Sophia Gallo and Elina Savoia at second doubles, plus first singles player Adeline Kontos and third singles player Grace Adams all won their matches 6-0, 6-0 to lift the Panthers. Olivia Devereaux also took home a 6-2, 6-0 victory at second singles for Beverly (now 6-3).
Swampscott 3, Peabody 2: First singles player Anna Eccles won her match, 6-1, 6-2, for Swampscott, as did No. 2 singles player Sydney Antonelli (6-4, 6-4) and the first doubles team of Ava and Alexia O’Donnell (6-7, 6-2, 6-1).
BOYS TENNIS
Beverly 5, Salem 0: Liam Timpone (6-1, 6-1), Luca Pasquarello (6-0, 6-3) and Xander Alexeyev (6-5, 7-6 (7-2)) all claimed victories in singles play to power the Panthers to victory. Logan Hall and Rae Gedangoni pulled out a three-set victory at first doubles, (6-3, 4-6, 6-1), while Nate Fein and Shane Griffin also went three sets at second doubles to pull out the win (6-2, 4-6, 6-3).
St. John’s Prep 5, BC High 0: The Eagles (10-0 overall) improved to 7-0 in the Catholic Conference behind singles wins from John DeAngelis (6-3, 1-6, 6-4), Jack Prokopis (6-1, 6-1) and Luke Free (6-0, 6-2), plus doubles triumphs from Luke Prokopis and Boris Kouzminov (6-4, 6-4) and Mark McDuffee and Alex Melville (6-1, 6-1).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
BC High 3, St. John’s Prep 0: Tighe Lusk hit .471 on the night while Grant Magnuson and Cole Morrison had 13 and 12 digs, respectively, in the Prep’s 25-23, 27-25, 25-21 setback.
GIRLS TRACK
Gloucester 85, Danvers 42: Bobbi Serino won the 2-mile for the Falcons while Tess Ryan was first in the 100 and Isabella Moccia was first in the javelin. DeAnna Figueiredo picked up second in the low hurdles and third in the highs while other seconds came from Kendall Murphy (100 hurdles, 200, high jump), Arianna McNulty (mile), Olivia Page (triple jump) and Delia Smith (shot put).
BOYS TRACK
Danvers 73, Gloucester 63: The Falcons made it five straight wins with key first place points from Owen Shanbar in the 100 (11.61), Bryce Kassiotis in the 200 (24.07), Chuck Garlin in the 800 (2:01.26), JJ Rooney in the mile (5:01), Will Conklin in the 2-mile (10:59), Timmy Bowler in javelin (129-10), Luca Tirella in high jump (6-feet), and the 4×100 relay of Shanbar, Michael Albano, Zach Dunn, and Bryce Kassiotis.
