Bad news for the rest of the Merrimack Valley Conference.
Sure, Brigid Gaffny reached the 400-strikeout plateau for her North Andover High career in Monday’s 6-0 win over Lowell.
As much as you would like to hope the senior Gaffny might be satisfied, she’s not about to ease off on the gas pedal.
“It means a lot to be able to be given the opportunity to reach that point. But I’m still hungry, I’m still working and I’m ready to get even more. The sky is the limit,” said Gaffny, who pitched North Andover to its eighth straight win, with no losses this year.
Gaffny needed three to reach the mark and finished with 11 on the day, taking 408 into Wednesday’s home battle with Chelmsford.
“I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and teammates,” said Gaffny, a two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star.
“And, I couldn’t have done it without my catcher, Jenna Roche. She calls every game, she’s a mastermind back there. and her dad Rick Roche, who passed away a few years ago — he was an amazing mentor to me. I couldn’t have done it without him.”
Gaffny and the Knights are off to the sizzling 8-0 start.
“The team has been hitting and playing amazing,” said Gaffny. “All the wins have been true team efforts across the board.”
Gaffny will head off to Bates College in the fall, but before that she’s looking to add one more chapter in the family’s rich athletic history at NAHS.
What keeps her going so strong?
“Honestly, my teammates and my love for the game,” Gaffny said. “North Andover pride … proud to be a Knight … just want to do North Andover proud.”
