WASECA — A man was sentenced to prison Wednesday in Waseca County for sexual assaulting a minor over the course of about 18 months, according to court records.
Grant Walter Moody, 39, was convicted on a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct by someone in a position of authority in Waseca County District Court. He had another similar charge dismissed.
Moody was charged in July after reports of him being at Waseca hospital’s emergency room with a 14-year-old girl, according to a criminal complaint. The complaint states the two originally told a story about her being sexually trafficked by other people, but she later told police Moody came up with the story.
An investigation reportedly determined Moody had been sexually assaulting her, took her on trips out of town and had plans to run away with her. He bought her clothes in preparation for the plan, according to the complaint.
A sentencing order states Moody received a 12-year sentence Wednesday minus 70 days credited to him for time already served. He’s set to serve at least two-thirds of the time in prison and the remaining one-third on supervised release.
His conditions include no contact with persons younger than 18 years old, except any of his own children, no contact with the victim, and required completion of a sex offender program. A restitution hearing related to the case is scheduled for May 28.
