Beer for history
EXETER — von Trapp Brewing returns to the American Independence Museum to kick off its 2024 season at a special spring Beer for History from 6 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, May 2, at the museum’s historic Folsom Tavern, 164 Water St.
The family-friendly event features music, trivia, and colonial tavern games with seating available inside and outside the historic Folsom Tavern (c. 1775).
Tickets for Beer for History events are $18 and $16 for members while those under 21 are free. Ticket prices include beer (21+), and light snacks.

Dispose old prescriptions
ARLINGTON, VA — The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) will hold its next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Paddle on the Powwow
EAST KINGSTON — Several members of the East Kingston Conservation Commission will be paddling on Powwow Pond from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 25, and they’d love it if any East Kingston kayakers/canoeists would like to join.
Participants will leave from the boat launch on Kelley Lane and be on the water for about two hours of “relaxed” paddling. The parking lot will accommodate about 10 cars and is for residents only, with stickers.
EKCC members will share information on local flora, including the invasive milfoil, and speak briefly about the importance of the Powwow and plans to address the town beach erosion.
This is intended to be a fun trip to acquaint, or reacquaint, you with a wonderful spot and provide some information — not a lecture.

Hazardous Waste Day
PLAISTOW — The Town of Plaistow will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection/Drop Off Day for the residents of Plaistow, Atkinson, Danville, Hampstead, Chester, and Kingston from 9 a.m. to noon on April 27 at the Public Works Facility, 144F Main St.
Proof of residence will be required. Bring any products labelled “caution, toxic, pesticide, combustible, poison, flammable, warning, or danger.”
Do not bring any of the following: latex paint, gas (propane) cylinders, explosive materials, medical wastes, infectious and biological wastes, prescription medicines or syringes, smoke detectors, commercial wastes, fire extinguishers, computer monitors or equipment.
There is a limit of 10 gallons or equivalent per household.

Gursky family fundraiser
KINGSTON — A special event is scheduled from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on April 28 at Saddle Up Saloon, 92 Route 125. Enjoy raffles, dancing, food and fun to benefit a local family.

Food trucks return
HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead Congregational Church announces the return of the popular food truck event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27 at 61 Main St.
Eight food vendors have already signed on to participate with more expected to join.
Entrance fee for diners is $5 (cash or check only) for ages 5 and above.
Visitors are urged to bring chairs or blankets to enjoy their meals and musical entertainment on the lawn.
Kid’s fishing derby
SANDOWN — Sandown Conservation Commission will host the 24th annual Sandown Kid’s Fishing Derby from 7:30 to 10 a.m. on April 27 at Sal’s Pond, 45 Main St.
The derby is open to kids ages 2-15 from Sandown and surrounding towns. Participants can arrive starting at 7 a.m. to set up.
Pre-registration and pre-payment ($3 per child and $10 per family) are strongly recommended to limit lines and delays during the derby.

The laser concert is guaranteed to bring the house down. It’s the perfect introduction to the wonders of a dazzling light show set to a compilation of current hits.

Scholarship available
ATKINSON — Atkinson Historical Society is granting a $1,000 scholarship to a high school graduate of the Class of 2024. The deadline to apply is May 1.
The AHS wishes to reward a student who has been involved in the community through their volunteer, civic, local government, Scouting, or similar activities.
Eligible students can be graduating from any local accredited high school, but must be a resident of Atkinson for their senior year.
