MANKATO — A man was recently sentenced to prison time and ordered to pay restitution in connection to a September shooting at a mobile home park in Mankato.
Jamie Lee Angel Bravo Mendez, 32, formerly of Mankato, was convicted on a felony illegal possession of a firearm or ammunition charge in Blue Earth County District Court. Related assault and drug charges dismissed against him were dismissed.
The shooting on Sept. 6 in Eastwood Manor Mobile Home Park left Luke Klammer hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg. Some witnesses alleged Mendez was the shooter, according to a criminal complaint, although accounts of the incident varied.
Law enforcement officers reported finding a firearm in Mendez’s vehicle the following day. Mendez told police he found the gun while cleaning his vehicle. Previous convictions on his record barred him from legally possessing a firearm.
He will serve at least two-thirds of a five-year sentence, minus 201 days of credit for time already served, at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, according to a sentencing order.
The sentence runs concurrently to unrelated convictions in assault and drug possession cases.
Court records state Mendez was also ordered to pay about $6,782 in restitution to Klammer.
