ALTAMONT — Another game, another double-digit strikeout performance for Altamont junior hurler Grace Lemke.
Lemke struck out 20 batters on Friday morning in the Lady Indians’ 7-1 win over Flora at Gilbert Park. She now has 103 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings pitched this season.
“Having a pitching coach with travel ball and (Altamont) has made me more comfortable with how I throw,” Lemke said.
Lemke also produced at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Sophia Pearcy also had two hits.
“She’s taken some hitting lessons, and she’s more confident,” head coach Megan Burrus said. “‘Soph’ is just a great kid. She’s bubbly and positive and goofy, but she’s a leader.”
Madison Tonn added one hit and two RBIs, as well.
Altamont moved to 4-2 on the season with the win.
“We’re pretty young,” Burrus said. “We lost two seniors last year, but we’re bringing in a good group of freshmen. Today, we had two freshmen starting on the field. I’m going to credit it to basketball’s success and them coming right into this. When I got these kids, they were excited and ready to go.”
