HENNIKER, N.H. – After sophomore midfielder Tim Keenan tied the game at 11 and forced overtime, the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team fell 12-11 in two overtimes as they wrapped up their last non-conference game of the season. In the second overtime, both teams had opportunities to win it as Keenan just missed a shot high and then Henri Pfeifle cashed in on a bounce shot that won it for New England College.
Senior attacker John Eiseman led the Cardinals with another six-point performance off of five goals and one assist. Keenan, Donald Woods, and Zach Derhak all posted three points. Keenan had two goals and one assist while Woods had one goal and two assists and Derhak had three assists.
Jamie Gipe, Ely Bruhns, and Max Lamitie all scored a goal with Lamitie’s goal being the first of his career. First-year attacker Dylan Irvine picked up his first career point with an assist. First-year defender Fynn Whitlock picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Junior midfielder Jimbo Farrelly won seven faceoffs.
For the Pilgrims, Matt Daley and Pfeifle both had five points as Daley recorded three goals and two assists and Pfeifle had four goals and one assist.
The Cardinals outshot the Pilgrims 58-39 and had a 36-33 advantage in ground balls. The Pilgrims won the faceoff battle 15-12. Both teams had three extra man-up opportunities as the Cardinals were successful on two attempts and the Pilgrims were only successful on one. On clears, the Cardinals were 19-24 while the Pilgrims were 14-22.
Plattsburgh moves to 4-5 overall with the loss and next travels to Cortland on Saturday as they start SUNYAC play with the opening faceoff dropping at 1 pm.
Women’s Lacrosse
CORTLAND, N.Y. – After the Plattsburgh State women’s lacrosse team got into an early deficit, a high-scoring offensive day from Cortland handed them their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss on Wednesday evening.
After giving up 10 goals in the first quarter, the Cardinals limited the Red Dragons’ offense but were not able to match the Red Dragons’ scoring and ultimately fell 22-2.
Cynthia Barnosky scored two goals on the day and was the only Cardinal to register a point. First-year defender Sloane Carr led the way for ground balls with a career-high four. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Resnick came away with two caused turnovers while junior midfielder Rachel LaMar had two draw controls.
For the Red Dragons, Rachel Janis and Mackenzie Beck both had five points as Janis recorded five assists and Beck had four goals and one assist.
The Red Dragons outshot the Cardinals 41-9 and had the edge in ground balls 21-12. The Red Dragons won the draw control battle 22-4. The Cardinals were 0-2 on extra man-up opportunities and the Red Dragons were 1-2. The Cardinals were 2-6 on free positions and 8-18 on clears while the Red Dragons were 5-6 and 12-13 in those categories respectively.
Plattsburgh moves to 1-6 overall (0-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts Fredonia on Saturday, with the first draw control taking place at 11 am.
