THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Middle School (TCMS) boys and girls track and field teams continue to show out against top South Georgia competition.
That display of excellence last Thursday netted the middle schoolers first-place finishes in a meet in Fitzgerald.
“They did really, really awesome and performed at a high level,” said coach Deborah Anderson. “The main thing with me is that their student responsibilities come first. If we have them with a one track mind on discipline, everything else will come; the success will come. Taking care of student responsibilities, that’s what I’m most concerned with and having good character.”
In the girls competition, Journee Walker won the 100 meters and 200 meters and was part of the 4×100-meter relay that placed second, joining Wynter Sessions, Zariah Clark and Ra’kiyah Barnes.
Zy’Ronnie Myles finished second in the 400 meters, while Sessions placed third in the 400 meters. Sessions was also part of the winning 4×400-meter relay team, joining Clark, Myles and Kanari Bowdry.
Chloe Mancil finished runner-up in the 800 meters, while Bowdry placed third in the high jump. Zariyah Knight finished third in the discus.
Deandra Andrews won the 100 meters and placed second in the 200 meters. A’Ziyah Cason, Jasylnn Reese, Olivia Taylor and Meghan Germaine were part of the 4×400-meter relay team that placed second.
On the boys side, Miguel Henson finished third in the 400 meters and was part of the second-place 4×400-meter relay team, joining Trey Brooks, Connor Stephens and Demarion Sawyer.
Josh Glass won the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and was part of the third-place 4×400-meter relay team, joining Saun Haney, Nick Mancil and Cam Baker.
Haney also placed second in the 1,600 meters and third in the 800 meters, while Holten Dennard finished third in the 1,600 meters. Sawyer won the 100-meter hurdles, while Ty’Kendrian Bush finished second in the event.
Brooks placed first in the triple jump.
TCMS has 25 girls and 23 boys on this year’s track and field roster.
“We have done very well from the very start of the track season. The girls and boys placed second at Jesse Forbes (Invitational), and there were more than 20 teams there. They were able to bring home two second-place trophies. All of the meets they have either placed first or second. We’ve had a total of six meets,” Anderson said.
