Cullman’s Jake Dorough and Good Hope’s Ava McSwain each made the cut when the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association announced earlier in the month this year’s North-South All-Star basketball rosters.
Both Dorough and McSwain were one of just 15 soon-to-be seniors selected to their respective North squads.
The hoops doubleheader will played in July as part of All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery.
Dorough averaged 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Bearcats this past season, helping them reach the Elite Eight. The Class 6A second-team All-State selection also shot 91 percent from the free-throw line, sank a school-record 10 3-pointers in a game and committed no turnovers during Cullman’s playoff run.
McSwain, meanwhile, played a critical role in leading the Raiders to their first-ever state title.
She averaged 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists en route to netting Class 4A All-Northwest Regional Tournament (MVP) and All-State Tournament Team accolades. The first-team All-State selection also made 45 percent of her field-goal attempts.
