CUMBERLAND — Allegany College of Maryland fell to Monroe College, 64-43, in the Region 20 Division 1 title game on Sunday at Bob Kirk Arena.
The Trojans (6-19) were seeded third entering the three-team tournament before upsetting Harford (4-22), 65-34, on Saturday behind a quintet of double-figure scorers: Saniya Brown (13), Saniya Blakey (12), Morgan Taylor (10), Ziahya Lomax (10) and C’Niyal Turner (10).
Lomax recorded a double-double with 19 rebounds, and Turner also pulled down 10 for one of her own. Blakey had a team-high eight assists, and three Trojans had at least three steals.
Allegany led Harford, 16-8, after a quarter and 28-21 at the half before a dominant 21-5 third period in favor of the Trojans secured them a spot in Sunday’s championship game.
Miranda Turner paced Harford with 11 points. She was the lone double-digit scorer.
In the championship bout, Monroe (18-10) dominated the middle quarters 40-23 to pull away after Allegany College hung around for a quarter, trailing 11-8 after a period.
Brown paced ACM in defeat, scoring 13 points off the bench to finish as Allegany’s only double-figure scorer. Lomax added nine points and seven boards, Turner scored six with nine rebounds, and Taylor garnered six points and six rebounds.
Carlota Gomez-Alonso was the high scorer for Monroe with 17 points, followed by Shanelle Smith with 13 and Sharon Brown with 10.
