ALLEN PARK — Traverse City West junior Alyssa Tanner advanced to the Division 1 state bowling quarterfinals, rolling four games higher than 220 in the process.
Tanner went into bracket play as the fourth seed following a 1,264 five-game qualifying block series that included high games of 222 (twice), 225 and 228 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
In the finals match play bracket, she won 398-331 over Utica Eisenhower junior Sophia Matheson, trailing 196-185 after the first of two games before putting up a 213 to secure the victory. Tanner lost to Zeeland East senior Brianna Fortney in the quarterfinals 474-370.
Traverse City Christian junior Ethan Ehlert took ninth in the Division 4 qualifying round with a 1,201 series, with each of his final four games over 200. He fell to No. 8 seed Cole Bradshaw of New Lothrop, 452-375, in a two-game match at Northway Lanes in Muskegon.
Benzie Central junior Tyler Brooks placed 25th in the qualifying block with a 1,114, while TC Christian senior Tristan Llamon was 35th (1,061) and Sabres senior Luke Rasmussen 40th (1,048).
Traverse City Christian senior Rebekah Burch made the Division 4 girls finals bracket play, winning a roll-off with teammate Kacy Palmer for the 16th and final spot in the bracket. Both Burch and Palmer rolled 1,025 series, with Burch taking a 169-157 win in the extra game to move on. Burch fell to top-seeded Hadassah Bloom of Bronson in the opening round of match play.
Ehlert and Burch helped continue TC Christian’s successful weekend on the lanes as the Sabres captured state titles in both boys and girls team action Friday.
TC Christian senior Naomi Elenbaas (907) finished 42nd, and Sabres senior Gwen Oliver (869) was 47th.
Traverse City Central junior Carter Banton just missed making bracket play, rolling a 1,198 qualifying block series, two pins short of a roll-off for the 16th and final bracket spot.
TC West senior Cooper Phillips rolled a 1,174 series to finish 25th. Banton was 19th.
TC West senior Jordan LaFleur came up 12 pins short of the Division 1 girls finals bracket, with a 1,143 qualifying block series to finish 18th.
Titans senior Taylor Phillips’ 1,021 put her in 41st place.
In Division 2, Petoskey sophomore James Hendrick placed 31st with a 1,089 series at Century Lanes in Waterford.
In Division 3, Boyne City junior Zachary Piechan finished 35th in the qualifying block with a 1,053 series at JAX60 in Jackson.
