VALDOSTA — Three sites will be busy this weekend for the 24th annual Valdosta High School Wildcat Invitational.
Games take place Friday and Saturday at fields at old Valdosta High’s Bazemore Field, Valwood and Valdosta State’s Billy Grant Field. Five games will take place each day, featuring teams from Georgia and Florida.
Action starts at 3:30 today with a pair at old VHS. At 3:30 p.m. Thomasville takes on St. Johns Country Day. At about 6:30 p.m., Valdosta takes on Baldwin, Florida.
Valwood hosts one game Friday, the host school against Thomasville at 6:30 p.m.. Games start at 4 p.m. at VSU with two games featuring Florida schools: Oakleaf against Florida State University High and North Florida Christian versus St. Johns Country Day.
Baseball and breakfast go together Saturday, with the opening game at old VHS at 10 a.m., Cairo playing Baldwin. Oakleaf and North Florida Christian clash around 1 p.m., with Valdosta and Columbia playing at 4p.m.
At VSU, FSU High and St. Johns play at 11 a.m., followed by Cairo and FSU High.
Bart Shuman’s Wildcats are 2-2 so far for 2024. Valdosta began with a 9-6 win over Thomasville, then fell to Tift County. They edged Jackson High’s Red Devils, 4-3, then dropped a return game at Thomasville.
The other local school, Valwood, is 1-0, having debuted Tuesday with a 4-3 win over Florida’s St. John Paul II.
