MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — No. 2 East Hardy exploded for 57 points in the middle quarters to rout Union, 84-45, on Tuesday night for its seventh straight win.
The game was tied at 12-all following the first quarter until East Hardy (12-1) scored 27 points in the second period to lead 39-22 at the half. A 30-8 third quarter in favor of the Cougars gave them an insurmountable lead.
Nate Smith finished with a game-high 20 points and three 3-pointers, JW Teets added 16 and made two 3s, and Evan Hamilton added 12 to join them in double figures.
Jordan Teets and Gideon Good scored nine each.
Braylon Ward paced Union with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Braxton Crites chipped in eight points.
East Hardy is at Pendleton County on Thursday at 6 p.m. Union (6-8) hosted Harman on Wednesday and hosts Tygarts Valley on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
No. 5 Southern 66, Broadfording 59
HAGERSTOWN — No. 5 Southern jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead and held off a second-half run Tuesday to up its winning streak to five games.
The Rams (12-6) led 19-10 after the first and 26-22 at the half. Broadfording dominated the third period 25-15 to claw within 51-47, but Southern Braige Hardesty and Joel Campbell hit two field goals each in the fourth and Jacob Brown was 4 for 4 from the line to hang on.
Isaiah Keller ended with a game-high 21 points, hitting four 3-pointers, Noah Wilt tallied 11 points and Campebell scored 10.
In double figures for Broadfording were Jordan Shifler (16), Camari White (14) and Brandon Monroe (13).
Southern hosts Northern (9-8) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Petersburg 77, Pocahontas Co. 48
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg bounced back from a loss to East Hardy with a dominating victory over Pocahontas County on Tuesday night.
Peyton Tingler exploded for 28 points to pace the Vikings (12-4), who led 36-29 at the half and 64-40 after three quarters. Caden Ours and Kaleb Kuhn also had double-digit scoring outputs with 14 and 13 points, repsectively.
Petersburg is at Moorefield (5-12) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
