The top-end talent got it done for the Newburyport boys ski team on Tuesday.
It was Meet 6 of the North Shore Ski League, and the Clippers raced to victory against Hamilton-Wenham in their lone match of the day, 71-64. Out of the 98 skiers that completed their runs down the Ski Bradford slope, the Clippers impressively had a trio finish inside of the top-10. Beckett Rathbone was seventh in 21.75, and he was followed by Reed Tracy in eighth (21.79) and Thijs Tague in 10th (22:00).
Captain Tommy Lynch (22nd, 22.88) also had a good run for Newburyport, and Henry Thurston (43rd, 24.43) rounded out the team’s top-5 for the day.
The Haverhill/Pentucket co-op team, on the other hand, fell in both of its matches — one to Andover (93-42) and the other to Hamilton-Wenham (82-53). But there were of course still some highlights, with Pentucket sophomore Jayden Pabst taking 11th (22.16), Henry Gagnon finishing 21st (22.81) and Zach Miller placing 31st (23.79).
FOLEY, NEWBURYPORT GIRLS HOLD ON TO BEAT HAMILTON-WENHAM
It perhaps got a bit more interesting than the Newburyport girls basketball team would have wanted, but a win is still a win.
The Clippers enjoyed a seven-point lead at halftime during Tuesday’s game at Hamilton-Wenham, and bumped that up 26-16 heading into the fourth. That, however, is when the host Generals put together a furious rally — doubling their point total in the fourth quarter alone — but the Clippers were able to hold on for the 38-34 win.
A big reason for that was junior Olivia Foley, who finished with a team-high 14 points. Olivia McDonald hit a 3 and added 6 points, and Lizzie Metsker chipped in 5.
Newburyport (7-5) will next host rival Triton on Thursday night.
