BOYS BASKETBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 60, North Reading 49: AB Labell had 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, in which the Generals outscored their hosts 25-9 to prevail. Labell also had a dozen rebounds and eight assists in the win. Chris Collins pulled down a staggering 19 rebounds to go along with 12 points for Hamilton-Wenham (now 6-5), with Caden Schrock also posting a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Ipswich 76, Pentucket 64: Max Chesley had one of the best games of his career with 37 points including six three-pointers and nine makes from the free throw line as the Tigers (5-7) overwhelmed the Panthers. Chesley had 16 of his points in the third quarter when Ipswich took command and Gabe Sykes (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Nick DeLeon (13) provided the complimentary scoring. Vin Winter also played some standout defense.
Marblehead 71, Masconomet 55: Nick Lemmond had a monster night with 30 points and the Magicians went on the road and snapped Masco’s four-game win streak.
Devin O’Brien led the Chieftains (6-5, 5-3 NEC) with 20 points while Hunter Rossi scored 10. Jack Fiedler, Ryan Corcoran, John Green and Cal Weidman had big second halves as Masco cut a big lead down to 10 before Marblehead pulled away.
Rockport 41, Essex Tech 28: Graeme Dineen continued his strong play this season by pulling down 11 rebounds for the Hawks in a defensive battle. Elijah Copeland led the scoring for the locals with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Malden Catholic 79, St. John’s Prep 57: Despite 13 points from senior guard Jeremiah Polanco, the Eagles (3-10) fell behind by 15 points at intermission and were unable to cut into the Lancers’ lead. Senior captains and forwards James MacLean and Quinn Gregorie both added nine points in the setback.
Newman 46, Waring 44: Colin Vellante scored 18 points and Charlie Carner added 14 for Waring.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 42, North Reading 39: Freshman Grace Harres went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minute and scored 14 total points as the Generals (8-4) won a thriller on Teacher Appreciation Night at home. The rivals traded the lead throughout the fourth and while H-W led by seven at halftime, the Hornets were ahead by one after three.
Essex Tech 54, Rockport 21: The Hawks got 10 points from Thais Dos Santos in a blowout Cape Ann League victory. Emma Dorgan (4 steals) and Tenley Mugford both added seven points while Mya Jagodynski and Kianna Sholds had five points apiece for Essex Tech (now 4-9).
Bishop Fenwick 58, Archbishop Williams 30: Senior captains Cecilia Kay (16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists) and Tess Keenan (6 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) helped propel the Crusaders to their 10th victory in 11 games this winter. Sophomores Caitlin Boyle (12 points, 4 assists) and Celia Neilson (10 points, 5 assists, 7 steals) were also instrumental in Fenwick’s win, as was senior Bella Lopez-Marin (5 steals, 4 assists).
Pentucket 54, Ipswich 39: Lucy Donahue canned five 3-pointers en route to 15 points, in the Tigers’ setback. Ella Stein added 13 points, including a trio of triples.
BOYS SKIING
St. John’s Prep wins two: Behind excellent times from Josh Haarmann (19.63 seconds) and Sam Charrette (19.86) that earned them 47 points, the Eagles swept their way past both North Andover (109-26) and Haverhill (108-27). Andrew Pellegrini (20.49), Aidan Rogers (20.60), Colton Friedlander (20.68), Alex Heath (20.84) and Sam Tucker (20.93) also skied well for SJP.
Masconomet 72, Hamilton-Wenham 63: Ethan Day and David Palmer both finished their runs in 20.68 seconds to lift the Chieftains at Bradford Ski Area. Owen Palmer was just 1/100th of a second behind his teammates, with Elias Cantor turning in a 21.14 finish.
Hamilton-Wenham’s Will Harrington came down the mountain faster than any other skier on Tuesday, finishing in 19.49 seconds to claim first place overall. Teammate Cooper Bousom added an eighth place finish (20.56) and Jack Totten finished in 21.05 as the Generals also fell to Newburyport, 80-55.
GIRLS SKIING
Generals win two: Hamilton-Wenham shaded Masconomet (69-66) in one of the closest meets of the season and also beat Newburyport 81-54. H-W’s Evie Bernard was first overall with a time of 22.21 while Stewart Bernard came in sixth at 22.57. Molly Ryan (10th, 23.10) and Sydney Smith (13th, 23.18) had good runs as well.
Masconomet had three of the top five finishers: Amanda Schneider (3rd, 22.28), Megan Riley (4th, 22.30) and Hannah Mitchell (5th, 22.49).
GYMNASTICS
Medford 106.9, Peabody 86.75: Senior captains Bailey Merchant (7.15) and Kim Viera (7.1) had their personal best scored on beam to highlight a fun, competitive meet for the Tanners. Molly Hagerty, an 8th grader, scored 7.5 on beam and Nelly Fernandez scored 7.1 Hagerty added a 7.6 on floor and team had a 16.5 total on the vault.
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
Bishop Fenwick splits: Declan Corcoran took first place in the long jump as did teammates Danny Roan in the 55 hurdles and Gianluca Sestito in the shot put to guide the Crusaders past St. Mary’s Lynn, 48-42, but dropped a heartbreaker to Archbishop Williams, 42-39. Second place finishers for Fenwick included Michael Carter (300), John Reilly (1000), and Sam Appleyard (2-mile). The 4×200 relay team of Lincoln Dugan, Nondas Lagonakis, Carter and Corcoran also took first place.
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK
Bishop Fenwick 44, St. Mary’s Lynn 43: Marianna Kay, Julia Davis, Olivia Rowe and Emily Elliott won the decisive 4×400 relay in a time of 4:37 to give Fenwick (now 5-2) the victory. McKenna Leaman (shot put), Maeve O’Donnell (300), and Kay (1000) also won first place in their respective events for Fenwick, with Anne Swanson taking second in the mile.
SWIMMING
Danvers 96, Gloucester 74: Individual winners for the Falcons (4-3) were Agnes Osminkin (200 free), Zachary Cotter (200-IM and 100 free) and Maddie Martin (100 breast) while Danvers also took both relays. Arianna McNulty, Darius Chung, Julie Boyd, Mia Walsh and Brendan Lahr also had strong second and third place points.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Suffolk 91, Gordon 59: Despite 18 points from Ami Rivera plus 14 points and 11 rebounds from her twin sister Ami Rivera, the Scots (3-15) fell behind by 24 at halftime and couldn’t climb back into it.
UNE 63, Endicott 55: The Gulls fell to 10-7 on the season despite 14 points and a dozen rebounds from Sarah Dempsey.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Suffolk 89, Gordon 73: Bryce Smith and Treyton Tebbs had 16 points each but some defensive lapses in the first half cost the Scots (4-14) in the CCC setback. Isaac Jarvis also scored 14 with a team-best eight rebounds.
Endicott 92, UNE 75: The Gulls improved to 12-6 with a home league victory. Jalen Echevarria had a game-best 27 points to lead Endicott, Ty Vitko scored 19 and Jeff Hill netted 14 to go with seven assists.
