SARANAC — The Saranac boys’ basketball team was that close to pulling off one of the upsets of the season on Friday.
But Moriah rallied in the fourth quarter and was able to edge out a 54-52 victory in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play.
The Spartans held a 32-19 lead at the half and still held the advantage in the fourth before the Vikings fought from behind.
“It was a very intense game which was a tough one to lose,” Saranac coach Mike Recore said. “Moriah executed down the stretch and we struggled.”
Cooper Allen and Wyatt Whitman led Moriah with 13 points each and Joe Pelkey added 10.
Caswell McCoy finished with 15 points for the Spartans, while Carson Duffield added 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Gabe Cayea also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

CLINTONVILLE — Leo Williams and Josh Sand scored 10 points each and the Eagles used another balanced attack in their win over the Patriots.
Beekmantown, which held a 30-13 lead at the half, had 12 of its players get into the scoring column.
Celton Dupuis tallined nine points and Hayden Bombard added eight points for the Patriots.
“Beekmantown came out very aggressively and set the tempo for the game,” AuSable Valley coach Andrew Bombard said.
“We struggled to break the press early in the game, but eventually slowed the game down and had some bright spots in our night.”

PHS placed five players in double figures — Max Filosca and Cayden Williams with 14 apiece, Dan Hartmann 12, Landon LaDue 11 and Logan Rodriquez 10.
The Hornets jumped out to a commanding 38-14 advantage at the half.
Tommy Montalbano accounted for half of Ticonderoga’s offense with 20 points.
