LAWRENCE — More than a third of the Lawrence Fire Department will work out at TD Garden later this month to raise money for charities that support at-risk youth, military, first responders and more.
Some 38 Lawrence firefighters between the ages of 24 to 58 are participating in the BFit Challenge on Jan. 28.
The firefighters will run, walk and climb stairs at the Garden to raise money for their selected charity, the Boston Bruins Foundation, firefighters said.
Donations are currently being accepted through the BFit Challenge website (runsignup.com) and 100 percent of proceeds goes directly to charities.
Last year, the BFit Challenge raised $649,000.
“The fundraising part for us is huge,” said firefighter Corey Scott, noting Lawrence firefighters partnered with the Boston Bruins Foundation before Christmas and gave away warm coats to preschoolers.
The event also gives members a change to work on their physical fitness and activity levels which is always important in the firefighting profession, Scott said.
“And at the same time we get to give back,” he said.
The Boston Bruins Foundation is a non-profit organization that assists charitable organizations that demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children and families throughout New England.
