ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire made 17 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Keyser to win 68-61 Friday and end a six-game losing streak.
The Trojans (3-7) maintained a 43-37 edge entering the fourth quarter where they made 17 of 24 attempts at the charity stripe to escape with a victory. Hampshire was 24 for 41 at the line for the game.
The win avenges a 53-45 defeat to Keyser (4-6) on Dec. 15.
Jenson Fields led the Hampshire scoring charge with a team-high 23 points. Jordan Gray added 15 points, making 7 of 12 free throws, and Matt Medina chipped in 11.
Patrick Liller poured in a game-high 27 points for Keyser, 15 of which came in the fourth quarter. Jack Stanislawczyk also scored in double figures with 13 points.
Hampshire hosts Elkins on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Keyser hosts Southern (6-4) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Southern 69 Cesar Chavez 63
OAKLAND — Southern hit eight straight free throws over the final two minutes Saturday to down Cesar Chavez.
The Rams (6-4) held narrow leads of 15-11, 29-27 and 51-50 after each of the first three quarters. Jared Haskiell went 4 for 4 from the line in the decider, and Noah Wilt and Ryan Bird hit two straight.
Noah Wilt poured in a team-high 17 points, matching Markesse Coe for a game-best total. Isaiah Keller (16 points), Haskiell (15) and Bird (11) also ended in double figures for Southern.
In addition to Coe, Kasson James (16), Semaj Marshall (13) and Elijah Butts (11) had double-digit scoring outputs.
Southern won the junior varsity game 49-42 behind a 17-point performance from Braden Lucas. Cade Leader and Sean Eiswert added 11 points each.
No. 4 Petersburg 48 Moorefield 32
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Kaleb Kuhn tallied a game-high 20 points, and No. 4 Petersburg dominated the fourth quarter to shake off Moorefield on Friday night.
The Vikings (8-1), winners of seven straight, trailed 19-17 to Moorefield (4-6) at the intermission, as Ronny Griest got hot from 3-point land with a pair of triples. He scored eight of his team-high 11 points in the period.
Petersburg led 30-28 entering the fourth before outscoring Moorefield, 18-4, in the final stanza to win running away. Kuhn tallied 11 points in the quarter.
Caden Ours also ended in double figures for Petersburg with 11 points.
Petersburg is at Tygarts Valley on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Moorefield hosts Frankfort on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mtn. Ridge 72 Broadfording 33
FROSTBURG — Cameron Breighner scored a career-high 30 points, and Mountain Ridge routed Broadfording on Saturday to get back to .500.
Breighner’s total is also the most points scored by a Mountain Ridge player this season. Will Patterson set the previous high mark with 27 in a 68-62 victory over Keyser on Dec. 12.
Eli Sibley added 12 points in the Mountain Ridge win Saturday, Ian Duncan scored eight, Owen McGeady garnered seven and Brady Moran finished with six.
Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game 59-39. Carter Clites (18 points), Levi Clise (17) and John Delaney ended in double figures for the Miners. Daniel Lee scored 20 points for the Broadfording JVs.
Mountain Ridge (1-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) is at Allegany (9-1 overall, 3-1 WestMAC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
No. 5 Frankfort 72 South Harrison 46
LOST CREEK, W.Va. — No. 5 Frankfort outscored South Harrison by 12 the third quarter to pull away on Friday night.
The Falcons (4-5) ended a three-game losing streak with the victory, which was made possible by a balanced attack that saw nine different Frankfort players impact the scoreboard.
Cam Layton and Jeremiah Babo were the high scorers for Frankfort with 14 points apiece, followed by Cam Lynch with nine, and Uriah Cutter and Jeremy Phillips each with eight.
Cam Evans was the lone double-figure scorer for South Harrison with 10 points.
South Harrison won the junior varsity game 37-32. Van Toothman led South with 11 points. Ethan Talley ended with 10 points for Frankfort.
Frankfort is at Pendleton County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Union 55 Paw Paw 45
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Braylon Ward exploded for a 30-point double-double, and Union outlasted Paw Paw in overtime on Friday night on its homecoming.
Tied at 42 entering the extra period, Union outscored Paw Paw, 13-3, to pull away. Paw Paw led 35-27 entering the fourth before Union made a comeback to force overtime.
Ward ended with 31 points, 15 rebounds and six steals to lead Union. Eric Linkswiller added 11 points and six rebounds, and Jacob Wolfe scored six points.
Aiden Crabtree was the lone double figure scorer for Paw Paw with 15 points, adding six rebounds. Connor Williams tallied nine points and eight boards, and Donovan Tanouye, who averages more than 20 points per game, was held to seven points.
Union is at Hancock on Tuesday. Paw Paw hosts Hancock on Friday.
