The man who suffered fatal injuries at a Minnesota Department of Transportation facility in Waseca has been identified, the Star Tribune reported.
Family members identified the man as 35-year-old Brian C. Sommers, a lifelong southern Minnesota resident who died Tuesday afternoon.
Sommers worked for Waseca County and died in a work-related incident at the site in the 1500 block of South State Street. The Waseca Police Department reported the death Tuesday saying emergency responders arrived at the scene where an adult male was found lying on a piece of equipment and unresponsive.
As of Saturday, any specific circumstances surrounding Sommers’ death have yet to be disclosed by the county, MnDOT or police.
The state Department of Labor and Industry told the Star Tribune the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Division is investigating the death.
His obituary said Sommers worked on the family dairy farm until April 2022.
Waseca County posted a memorial tribute on its Facebook page.
“Brian Sommers left this earth far too soon and we grieve his passing each day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Kirsten and their four beautiful children. Brian touched the lives of so many in our community in so many ways.
“Whether as a loving husband and father, or a coach and co-worker, he impacted those around him.”
Waseca Police, Waseca Sheriff’s Office, Waseca Fire and North Memorial Ambulance responded to the call.
