DOWNTOWN — Orpheus Theatre’s Star Struck Players are poised to captivate audiences with magical charm and heartwarming storytelling with its presentation of “Shrek The Musical JR.” Performances will be held on the Bettiol Theater stage at Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center at 24 Market St. in Oneonta at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21.
According to a media release, beauty is in the eye of the ogre in “Shrek The Musical JR.,” based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as Shrek, leads a cast of ogres, donkeys and fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.
Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, “Shrek JR.” is described as a fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
The production, featuring a cast and crew of 40 area youths, is directed and choreographed by Rhiannon Downey with vocal coaching provided by Dan Chien.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for those 65 and older and 17 and younger. Seats may be secured online until 4 hours before each show. Access the ticketing platform at www.orpheustheatre.ticketleap.com/shrek to choose seats.
Tickets will be available at the door one hour before showtime. Cash, credit and checks are accepted at the venue. Admittance will cease three minutes before each performance.
