Winthrop 5, Gloucester 3: The Fishermen (now 6-3) suffered their second straight defeat on Wednesday, falling behind by four goals in the second period and unable to make a comeback. Ben Cunningham had a goal and an assist and Colby Jewell had two assists for Gloucester, with senior Jackson Hakes and junior Cade Cooper also scoring. Additional assists went to defensemen Chris Karvelas and James Sanfilippo, as well as forward Charlie Terelak. Goaltender Riley De Haan stopped 22 shots.
Triton 6, Rockport 2: Vikings goalie Cooper Miller made 26 saves in net, but it wasn’t enough in Wednesday’s setback. Hudson Wood scored an unassisted goal while Aidan Clarke put home a power play marker off assists from Will Stidsen and Nick Nocella. Rockport fell down by one goal early but was tied at 2-2 heading into the second period.
“Triton’s a good team that played us hard, but to our credit, we were right there with them and I was proud of how Rockport played Triton in the first period,” said Vikings head coach Garrett Stevens. “We have to learn to continue to carry the momentum into the next period though, play within the systems we have in place, and not grip our sticks as tightly as we have been when momentum starts to shift the other way. The coaches have faith in the team and their abilities to turn this ship around.”
