The Triton wrestling program celebrated its seniors in the best way possible on Wednesday night.
With CAL rival Essex Tech/Masconomet in town for the dual meet, the Vikings were able to punctuate their Senior Night with a hard-fought, 42-30, win. The Vikings have five seniors on the roster this winter, and two of them were able to pick up victories in their matches on Wednesday. Lucas Bistany was down 9-2 during his match at 144, but fought off his back twice, and got a late takedown that led to a third-period pin at exactly the 4:56 mark.
And as expected, Douglas Aylward cruised to a 50-second pin at 215.
But a pair of young guns stepped up big time for the still-undefeated Vikings (8-0).
In the first match of the meet, Austin Scolamiero was losing 8-5 with time winding down in the third period, but got a late reversal that led to a pin at 5:00 — similar to Bistany. The Vikings also got pins from Alex Sabino at 132 (:23), Jordan Ortiz at 157 (3:48), Amir Alami at 165 (1:16) and Nolan Merrill at 175 (3:11).
Wednesday night was also the 100th career victory for co-coach Ryan Archambault. Since last Friday, Archambault has been serving as active coach for the Vikings, after longtime head man Shawn McElligott welcomed the birth of his second child and first son, Cullen, and has been on leave.
‘HERSEY’S PARK’ GIVES TRITON HOCKEY A JOLT
Josh Hersey had himself a game on Wednesday night.
The electric junior forward netted a hat-trick while also assisting on another goal, leading the Triton hockey team to a 6-2 win over Rockport. It was all tied at two-apiece after the first period, but the Vikings (5-4) lit the lamp four times during the second to completely pull away.
But while Hersey was the star of the show, plenty of other Vikings stepped up.
Senior captain Jack Lindholm had a goal and an assist, and Triton’s other tallies came from Luke Sullivan and Aiden Szymanski. You then had the trio of Colin Fidler, Michael Taylor and Connor Rumph each post two assists.
TRITON SWIMMING KEEPS ROLLING!
It was another dual meet and another victory for the Triton co-op swimming team, as the boys beat Hamilton-Wenham, 75-69, while the girls won by a similar score of 74-68.
The girls were led by a trio of double-winners, as Abriana Cronstrom won the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, Jenna Whitaker took first in the 200 free and the 500 free, and Giuliana Cogliani won the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke. Finally, Liz Dynok tied her season-best time in the 200 IM to claim first in that event as well.
Moving over to the boys, six different swimmers won individual events. You had Josh Adler win the 200 free, Sam Whitaker win the 50 free, Logan Durocher win the 100 butterfly, Jacob Hoffman win the 100 free, Sam Hartford claim the 500 free and Hugo Hennessey take the 100 backstroke.
Both Triton simming teams are now 5-1 overall and 4-0 in CAL meets.
