A 5-year-old child died in a house fire Sunday afternoon, and another person was airlifted for treatment of burn injuries.
Firefighters with the Cumberland County Fire Department and other emergency responders were called to 2074 Fall Creek Rd. in eastern Cumberland County at 5:22 p.m. Sunday with a report of a fully involved structure fire. Initial reports said the child was inside the residence.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the young child was unable to escape the fire and unfortunately perished,” states a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Andrea Cox, 38, the child’s mother, was present at the scene and airlifted to Skyline Medical Center Burn Unit in Nashville for treatment of injuries.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
