The North Andover girls track and field team had an excellent showing at Thursday’s MSTCA Distance Classic Meet held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The Scarlet Knights were led by the performances of shot putter Makenna Dube and 800 runner Erika Wojcik, who both came away with first place finishes, while, Olivia Sawicki finished third in the pentathlon.
Dube broke the meet record by taking first in the shot put, throwing 37-07.00. The previous mark was set by a former North Andover star, Jenna Bard, who threw 33-11 two years ago.
“I was excited to come to this meet,” Dube told the Boston Herald. “I’ve been working on my speed this season moving through the circle. I definitely accomplished that goal today.”
Elif Altunkilic was third in the shot put, also breaking the meet record, with a throw of 36-04.
Wojcik won the 800 with a terrific time of 2:20.77. Siwicki was third in the pentathlon, which included finishing second in both the 800 (2:35.86) and long jump (15-08.25), while she was also sixth in the shot put (23-10.75).
Julianna Yankowsky was sixth in the 800 (2:42.62) and tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing 4-07.75. In the mile, Nicole Kroon was seventh in 5:34.76, and in the two-mile, Luna Prochazkova was fifth in 12:24.26, Hannah Shea was eighth in 12:47.59 and Julia Kroon was tenth with a time of 12:54.89.
Finally, the 4×800 relay team of Wojcik, Prochazkova, Shea and Nicole Kroon finished second with a collective time of 10:37.72.
On the boys side, North Andover was led by Mickey Valentino, who was fourth in the shot put throwing 44-09.25, while Emmett LaRosa was eighth in the mile coming in with a time of 4:44.10.
The Haverhill boys were led by Keith Korir, who was third in the mile with a time of 4:37.20.
Wrestling
Haverhill wins Noble InvitationalThe Hillies bested 45 other teams to capture the Noble Tournament held in North Berwick, Maine. This marked the first time that Haverhill participated in the tournament, and also is the team’s first tournament title this season after finishing second at both the Lowell Holidays and the Wilmington Sons of Italy tournaments.
“We have a really good team so heading into it I thought we had a chance to win it,” said head coach Tim Lawler. “Honestly, though I didn’t know much about any of the Maine teams.”
Taking home individual titles included Matt Harrold (215), Brent Nicolosi (165) and junior Michael Morris (113), who also won his 100th career match.
“Michael has been working really hard and he’s just a driven kid, who was ready to go in this tournament,” said Lawler.
Gage Muir (126) and Shea Morris (138) both finished second, while, Aiden Morris (106) and Cale Wood (120) were both third.
Girls Basketball
Hollis/Brookline Holiday Tournament
Windham finishes thirdIn the six-team weekend tournament which was won by Bishop Guertin, Windham finished third going 3-1 overall.
The Jaguars lost the opener to Bishop Guertin in a defensive battle, 22-14, before coming back to win the next three over Alvirne (46-41), Hollis-Brookline and then Alvirne for the second time (45-15). In the loss to Bishop Guertin, Meghan Hudson led the way with 8 points. She then doubled those points with 16 in the first win over Alvirne, while teammates Avery Steffanides and Paige Carboni had 6 each. In the second win over Alvirne, Lilah Boucher finished with 9 points.
Salem finishes fifthThe Blue Devils finished 2-2, with wins over Hollis-Brookline of 54-26 and 51-26, while falling to Bishop Guertin (41-33) and Alvirne (41-37). Lily George had 13 points against Alvirne, had 8 against Hollis-Brookline and played a fantastic all-around game including six points in the loss to Bishop Guertin. Nicole Ringdahl came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 13 and 11 in the two wins over Hollis-Brookline. Lyndsey Goetz also had a strong tournament with 10 points in the losing effort against Bishop Guertin.
Londonderry Holiday Tournament
Pinkerton 76, Hall Dale (ME) 42Pinkerton was led by Elizabeth Lavoie (17 points), Kaylee Dupuis (14) and Brooke Benze (10). Dupuis connected on four treys, while, Lavoie had two.
In the round-robin tournament, Pinkerton will face LaSalle, Rhode Island on Friday morning (10:00 a.m.).
Manchester Holiday Tournament
Pelham 46, Manchester Memorial 44The Pythons came through in an exciting back-and-forth game as Sophia Joncas led the way with 10 points, while, Sophia Guinazzo and Grace Riley chipped in 7 points apiece

Queen City Invitational
Salem 67, Bow 54In a consolation game, Salem improved to 4-1 overall on the season behind the play of Felix Gonzalez (19 points), Calen Smith and Zack Sangermano (15 points each).
Somerville Holiday Tournament
Somerville 56, Whittier Tech 38The Wildcats fell in the first round of the tournament. Ebe Efosa had 14 points, including four treys, in the losing effort.
Greater Lowell Holiday Tournament
Pelham 64, Westford Academy 55
In a game played Wednesday night, the Pythons were led by the performances of Zach James (21 points including four 3-pointers), Dom Herrling (10 points and 7 assists) and Peter Hemmerdinger (10 points and 3 steals).
The win puts Pelham into the semifinals against Leominster to be played at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Lowell will face Pinkerton Academy at 7 p.m. The two winners will play for the championship title on Saturday night (7:15 p.m.).

First Responders Cup Tournament
Methuen 6, North Reading 1The Rangers advance to Friday’s final (6 p.m.) with a convincing victory over the Hornets. Zach Anderson led the offense with a pair of goals, while Quinn Ronan had a goal and dished out three assists. Eliot Perry scored his first varsity goal, while, Dom Romano and Will McLaren also had one each. Goalie Owen O’Brien made 25 saves.
Regular Season
Andover 4, Bishop Fenwick 3A spread out offensive attack led the Golden Warriors to a big non-league victory. Marcel Joe led the way with two goals and one assist, while Jack Gervais and Anthony DeLuca had one goal each. Brendan Murnane had two helpers, while, teammates Caleb Wooster, Evan Ashton, Ryan Jailet, Finn Sheehy and Andrew Walles had one each. Goalie Vinnie D’Urso made 15 saves for the win.
North Andover 3, Arlington Catholic 1The Scarlet Knights continued their hot play, extending their winning streak to four games after starting out 0-2 with a non-league win over Arlington Catholic played Wednesday night. Goalie Troy Takesian was once again sensational making 42 of 43 saves. He was helped out offensively by Dylan Fitzpatrick, who netted two goals, and Terrell Peoples who had the other. Picking up single assists were Brendan Burke, Brady Tremblay, Kyle Donnelly, Patrick Nugent and Zack Steely.
