The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday announced the arrest a Lauderdale man on drug and gun charges following a pursuit Friday night.
Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said deputies conducting a roadside safety checkpoint around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Poplar Springs Drive and Buntin Gunn Road noticed a vehicle turning around prior to reaching the checkpoint. A deputy pursued the car and pulled it over for a traffic stop, he said.
“After a brief conversation with the driver and providing him with his Miranda warnings, the driver then fled on foot,” Calhoun said in a news release announcing the arrest. “The deputy pursued the driver and was able to physically apprehend him. After a brief struggle he was taken into custody.”
Alvin Lamar Davis, 25, who has been identified as the driver, is charged with possession of marijuana in vehicle, no/expired driver’s license, failure to maintain liability insurance, disorderly conduct: interfering with lawful order, resisting/obstructing, trafficking in controlled instances, controlled substance violations, fellow in possession of firearm and possession of stolen firearm, Calhoun said. Bond was set at a total of $253,000.
“Davis is currently being house at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility,” Calhoun said. “The felony charges will be presented to the next available Lauderdale County Grand Jury.”
