Record-Eagle is Newspaper of the Year - again

The Traverse City Record-Eagle was named the Michigan Press Association's Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category for 2012. It was the sixth consecutive year the newspaper won the award, and the seventh time in the past eight years.

Judges credited the Record-Eagle for being "exceptionally well designed and readable," with strong writing and solid opinion and sports sections.

"The well-planned and well-executed 9/11 anniversary edition was the clincher," the judges wrote.

The Record-Eagle competed in the 15,000 to 29,999 daily circulation category. The newspaper's staff won 40 awards in the contest, including 16 for first place.

The Record-Eagle is owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., of Montgomery, Ala.
