Advertising Director
The Daily Star, a six-day per week 16,000 circulation newspaper that services a four-county area in beautiful upstate New York, is seeking a high-energy, experienced, advertising professional who can lead our advertising department to the next level of success. Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills along with the leadership needed to guide a staff through these challenging times. The Advertising Director leads a staff of 11 and is responsible for generating all advertising revenue, including for our weekly publication The Cooperstown Crier and TMC, The Weekly Star, retail and classified sales along with a quarterly magazine, special sections and Internet sales. This person will work to meet the monthly department goals by developing the staff through training and direction in addition to creatively producing products and advertising opportunities that will serve the advertising community and boost revenue. This creativity would include a multi-platform approach using existing and new products with print and online offerings.
This person will need to be a proven leader with a track record of meeting revenue targets along with effective expense management. Budgeting skills along with strategic development and implementation are necessary.
The Daily Star annually is a New York state award-winning publication based in Oneonta. Its circulation area includes Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, and an area roughly the size of the state of Delaware. It is home to three state universities and Hartwick College, a private university.
